The Dubai Shopping Festival also called 'Layali Dubai', in Arabic, has its first edition in 1996. It was created by the government just as a retail event meant to promote the trade in Dubai. But then things developed and it became an annual shopping festival known in the whole world. It draws people from around the world looking for great things to shop at fair prices. This festival lasts a whole month and the slogan is: 'One Family, One World, One Festival'. Some tourists have even named it: 'Where the celebrations last a month and the memories, a lifetime'. It is a place where you can find great brands at some amazing prices. This makes Dubai a shopping capital in the Arabic world. Also don't forget to bargain, especially if you are shopping for gold. The Arabic people expect you to do that this is why the price will be a little higher when you ask the first time but it will go down a lot after bargaining. The Global Village While this festival takes place, many interesting activities take place and the whole family can get involved. One of the main areas of attention is Global Village. The international community gathers there and they display signs of their culture to the people. You can find some interesting handcrafted items, music, clothes and food from other cultures. For some years, it was near the Garhood Bridge but now you can find it in Dubai Land, since 2005. Carpet Oasis The Carpet Oasis is something you can not miss if you are during the festival in Dubai. There you can see hundreds of unique, handmade, oriental carpets from all around the globe, You can also find a huge collection of antiques there too. This oasis can be found at the Dubai World Trade Center. Shopping and Accommodations The festival reunited 40 and more Dubai shopping malls. You can bargain for better prices and many of the selling points are in opened air. In one year, more than 2,300 retail outlets were involved in the Dubai Shopping Festival. They offered cars, cosmetics, gold, electronics, jewelries and much more. Entertainment The festival also offers some entertainment events that can be found in the public parks. Some of these activities are fireworks, laser shows, music concerts and fashion shows. You can find many interesting and famous actors there. In some hotels, during this period of time, some celebrities are booked to give private concerts for the hotel guests.
