The narrator states, "Whoever comes up with the best name for the new baby shall be given the new donkey as their very own." The family is none other than Yosef's family, whose kids-Saul, Jacob, Bullion, and Sarah-grow up to play vital roles in biblical history. One can imagine the excitement a young child must have when he can have his very own pet donkey. Although each kid harbors this excitement, Bullion goes above and beyond, spending more and more time in the stable, trying to think of the perfect name. Interestingly, he named Moses' parents as well; the female was called Jael and the male, Elijah. When the donkey is born, each child is given the opportunity to name him. Sarah wishes to call him "Sunny," but since his coat was dark, this name was quickly rejected. Saul named him "Wooly," and Jacob named him "Storm." When it's Bullion's turn to name the colt, he seemingly falls into a trance and the "night noises began to fade away, first the insects and night birds, then even Jacob's voice faded into silence. Bullion looked up and saw his father speaking to him. He could see his father's lips moving, but he could not hear a thing." Suddenly, Bullion dramatically hears the voice of God, telling him to name him Moses. "Moses," whispered the voice, "name him Moses. Like the leader of old, he will serve as my instrument. He will help deliver my Son to Me." The passage that is most intriguing, with regard to the naming of Moses, is Yosef telling Bullion that Moses was not a man of money, but a man who spent his life loving and serving God. And so it is, that Moses the donkey and Bullion, in Ron Stock's Moses, God's Blessed Donkey, find themselves present at each of Jesus Christ's most significant moments.
