When it comes to tank maintenance, draining is a very important component. When you do the draining aspect of the cleanup, the water should be let out until the tank is clean. Before any draining can be done, you should see to it that you do not use any hot water even a couple of hours prior to the drainage. No overheating of the water in the tank should be done. Do not heat the water beyond 140 degrees if possible. In this case, the thermostat should be turned down when you have finished using the hot water.
