First let's see what is a firmware. The Linksys router's firmware is a small program which is placed in a built-in read-only memory or a flash disk within the wireless router and which contains several information and functions that helps the user to operate the Linksys router. We can that the firmware for a Linksys router is like Windows 7 for a Personal computer. It is necessary to take care of your Linksys router's firmware by upgrading it with the latest version.
Upgrading the router's firmware is the last solution whenever you experience problems using your Linksys router. For example, if you have configured the Internet connection and you network devices properly, but hosts on your network cannot access the Internet. Additionally, in the event of electric cut the memory is badly rewritten and the peripheral can not work correctly. Then you can choose to upgrade the router firmware in order to resolve this issue.
Read the following instructions in order to upgrade your router's firmware:
Step 1: Open your favorite web browser application, and enter the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address field. Then press Enter.
Step 2: In the authentication dialog box, enter the administrator's username and password. The default values are admin/admin for the username/password. However, on some Linksys router platforms, the default value for the username is the blank and for the password is admin.
Step 3: Click Administration.
Step 4: Click Firmware Upgrade.
Step 5: Click Browse in order to locate and select the firmware file, and then click Open.
Step 6: Click Upgrade and then click Ok in order to start installing the new firmware.
